Dear He-At-Her:
With that greeting, I guess you know who this is. Happy 40th birthday! I'm pretty amazed that you have four decades under your belt. That may be why you've always been one of my wisest friends. I met you when you were half-way to 40. Oh the fun we had. We danced, we churched, we pranked, we midnight yelled, we campaigned, we governed, we cooked, we baked, we ate, we Cotton Bowled, we partied, we studied, we went through a few roommates, we lived it up! See if any of these phrases ring a bell or bring a smile to your face (you're getting older, so if you don't remember, it's okay :-p): Scandia Apartments (401 Anderson #13-K), Orange counter tops, Wreath hats, lampshade runs to McDonalds, Mt. St. Heather, Elvis Party, Jolly Rancher messages on windshields, the Hall of Shame, startling your parents at From Cumorah's Hillperformance, cheesy poetry, ring dunking in apple juice at the Chicken or ice cream at Swensens, peeping (and not with the eyes), Friday Fun Nights. pink and green furniture, reception crashing, surviving roommate attacks (I've got the pic to prove it) and oh so much more! That only covers about an 8th of your stellar history and I know that your next 40 years will be even more fun and fantastic.
Thanks for being a true maroon pal to me. We hit it off from the get go in Aggieland. While we don't see each other often and don't chat nearly as much as we should we always share a bond and a closeness. Thanks for sharing with me your lessons of life, for offering me encouragement, for being there when I took out my endowments, for being a great example to me of a wife, a friend, a mother, and a hostess. Hospitality comes naturally to you, and so many people benefit because of it. You have a great designer's eye. I was always amazed at how quickly you could create an awesome poster or drawing (see photo of Elvis poster for example). My favorite was the bonfire one you did. I still haven't figured out how to draw like that, you talented gal! You've channeled your talents into sewing and homemaking and amazingly juggle home, family, church and work. You married a wonderful man who loves you and treats me like good kin. I think you can find great satisfaction in your well-accomplished first 40 years. I am excited to witness the next 40!
Thanks, too for reminding me, upon request, what I'm good at doing. I need that seeing as I don't have a hubby to remind me. I forget, and while I'm younger than you, my memory is not as good!
Of course, this note would not be complete without a bit of Darla cheesiness...so here ya go...and just remember it's even more sincere than it is cheesy:
H is for happy, heavenly, hospitable, homemaking Heather, the birthday gal!
E is for enthusiasm that effervescently comes naturally to my pal
A is for the active and amazing Aggie artist abiding in Australia
T is for the talented, true Texan with a slight twang, I tell ya,
H is for high hopes and happy birthday wishes sent from far away
E is for excellence in all she does and eagerness to see her again some day
R is for royalty for she truly is a queen, a daughter of God, mother of a prince, a reservoir of goodness worthy of rhyme!
I love you bunches and wish you a very happy birthday! I look forward to seeing you soon!
Smiles and Hugs,
Darla
